Why Shave Your Head?
Mark A. River

Shaving your head adds the equivalent of 4 waking days to your life each year, plus countless hours of mental energy from not worrying about your looks. How?

Saves time going to the barber
1 hour/month vs. 10 minutes to do at home = 50 min/month = 10 hours/yr.

Saves time washing/styling hair each day
Obviously depends on your hair length and style, but let's assume an average of 7 minutes/day between washing, drying, and styling which is over 42 hours/year. (Probably a conservative estimate for many women :-)

Saves money
Clearly dependent upon your stylist but lets assume an average monthly haircut costs $20 including tip & tax = $240/year. Substitute a $8.00 razor and $.50 in electricity for yearly savings of $231.50. Additional savings of $50/year on shampoo/gel/hairspray/etc. for total of $281.50 of after-tax income, or approximately 14 hours of life at $25/hour gross income.

Total time savings: 10 + 42 + 14 = 66 hours/year, over 4 days at 16 waking hours/day.

In addition, eliminating the distraction of a hairstyle from your life saves the mental energy of always thinking about "how do I look?", which is probably the greatest savings of all.

How exactly does hair add happiness to your life? Is it worth 4 free days/year to you? The next time you say you haven't had time for something ask yourself if it would be worth shaving your head for...
